Red Hot Embers
Red Hot Embers (RHE) is a
concept developed by several young African Diasporic women artists who
work in the Chicago area with AFSC's Life Over Debt coordinator Darlene
Gramigna.
Through this exhibit these women sought to create a
multimedia experience that would educate, promote and inspire other
young people to action around the issues that most negatively impact
the African continent; DEBT and its impact on the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
This exhibit calls upon all of us, especially young
people living in the U.S., to reflect upon the way in which each of
us play in the oppression of others.
This exhibit, which will be tour Ohio over the next
year, calls on us all to embrace the fact that "Umuntu ngumuntu
ngabanye abantu" or "My humanity is bound to your humanity,
for we can only be human together."
In Ohio, the program is administrated by the Northeast
Ohio Africa Initiative Program. If your organization or community group
would like to host the exhibit, please contact Debra Calhoun, Program
Director, at 330-928-2301 or e-mail, dcalhoun@afsc.org.
Information regarding the exhibit can be found at the National
AFSC website.
