What is People For a Change?
People For a Change is a local grassroots community
group formed as a result of an open public meeting in Akron, Ohio followed
the 2004 election. Originally named the Akron Area Citizens Council,
the three issues that the group initially set as as priorities to focus
on are:
- Opposing the War & Occupation of Iraq, and
working to promote peace
- Opposing the Patriot Act, and other abuses of political
and civil rights and liberties
- Working to ensure fair elections, both past and
future
Towards these ends, initial organizing efforts include
sponsoring a public hearing in Akron on 2004 election irregularities,
organizing a peace procession during First Night Akron, sponsoring a
bus to the January 20 2005 presidential counter inauguration, and working
to pass local city and county council resolutions against the Patriot
Act.
We welcome all those in the greater Akron and
Summit County area who believe in these goals and actions to join us
