Eyes Wide Open, AFSC’s widely acclaimed exhibit of boots and shoes honoring the casualties of the Iraq war returned to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. after a tour of more than 70 cities. The exhibit anchored a larger four-day event , Silence of the Dead – Voices of the Living: A Witness To End the War in Iraq, co-sponsored with organizations of veterans, military families, and others. On December 31, 2006, it was confirmed that 3000 US Troops and Hundreds of Thousands of Innocent Iraqis have died as a result of the Iraq War & Occupation. Local residents gathered with AFSC to commemorate this somber milestone and to make the statement that “Not One More Death...Not One More Dollar” be wasted on this unjust war.

Third Anniversary Numbers...

1"On March 18th, a couple of us put the number of US troops killed in Iraq on the backs of our jackets with duct tape to wear to the 3rd anniversary of the war event in Columbus. The number that day was 2,317.
2
The next day, the number still on the jacket, someone asked if I was aware of what it said. I said yes, it is the number of US troops killed in Iraq. He said look at it again -- upside-down." Here is what it said...
