Excerpt from the outdoor prayer service that
was held at noon on Monday...
Prayer with "Lord, hear our prayer" response:
We pray for all those who currently serve in the military, that they
come safely home soon.
For all those who have died in service to their country, especially
the men and women who have died in Iraq.
We pray especially for those who are remembered here from our home state.
May they rest in the arms of God.
For all the families who mourn the loss of mothers, fathers, sons and
daughters,
brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles and cousins, nieces and nephews.
May they receive comfort, consolation and healing.
For all those who have been wounded both physically and mentally in
this time of war.
May they be granted strength, courage, peace and healing as they recover.
We pray for all those experiencing the trials of separation from their
loved ones because of war.
May they receive God's strength and grace and may they be reunited safely.
For all who are caught in the crossfire of conflict and who suffer because
of it.
We pray for the people of Iraq and of all places where war and violence
have become a way of life.
May they experience peace and healing.
For wisdom and guidance for world leaders who make decisions of war
and peace...
Taps was played at the conclusion of the service.
