'Eyes Wide Open Ohio' at Pittsfiled farm market

"Eyes Wide Open Ohio: Beyond Fear, Toward Hope" a multimedia exhibit on the impact of the Iraq war and occupation on Ohio comes to Bushel Bob Farm Market on Friday, August 26, at 47980 Rt. 20, the corner of Rt. 20 and Quarry Road in Pittsfield Township.

Local peacemakers affiliated with Veterans for Peace are sponsoring the exhibit. Eyes Wide Open Ohio will be traveling throughout rural areas not often exposed to such an exhibit.

At the exhibit, visitors move through a memorial to the war's troops and civilian victims. It starts with a set of combat boots for each of the more than 90 Ohio troops who have died, labeled with name, rank, age, and hometown.

To represent the more than 100,000 Iraqi civilians that have died as a result of the war, there are more than 100 pairs of shoes. Eyes Wide Open Ohio is a state version of the American Friends Service Committee "Eyes Wide Open" exhibit that has traveled throught the United States and been featured in more than 60 media outlets around the world.

There is no cost to get in, although donations will be accepted. Further details of the exhibit can be found at http://www.afsc.net/ewoohio.html

Eyes Wide Open Ohio in rural Oberlin, Ohio...

Passersby on this busy rural roadway were exposed the the true cost of the war in Iraq on Ohioans. An occasional visitor would stop by and linger among the boots. Some visitors shed tears and thanked us for bringing the exhibit out to the country where they could see it.
