Peace Friends...
The Northeast Ohio American Friends
Service Committee is a Quaker social action organization that educates,
advocates and organizes on concerns of justice, peace, sustainability
and democracy. The Akron office is home to two programs,
the Wage Peace/Anti-War Program and the Economic Justice and Empowerment Program.
In addition, since 9/11 the Northeast Ohio AFSC has actively promoted peace, justice, and civil
liberties through community forums, rallies, marches, and vigils.
In mid-July 2005, the Northeast
Ohio office of AFSC joined with Dayton's AFSC to bring Eyes
Wide Open Ohio to communities throughout Ohio. This new exhibit,
modeled after the National
Eyes Wide Open Exhibit, presents a portion of the true impact of
war on Ohioans. In the summer of 2007, AFSC produced a new exhibit--The Cost of War--a series of banners detailing the social trade-offs of 1 day's cost of the Iraq war.
